Yep, I'm trying to play catch up today (and tomorrow). I wrote quite a bit at the write-in today before people tried to kick me out of the room that I had reserved about twenty to fifteen minutes before I was supposed to leave. I met another new Nanowrimo participant who mentioned that the experience was quite different because in order to write fast and fearlessly, he had to pretty much discard all of his literary fiction training.
Ah, the traditional creative writing curricula. I call it "traditional" even as academia-oriented creative writing bills itself as avant garde because the way people go about teaching such courses are all the same. Besides, I harbor the shocking notion that it's best that people learn creative writing by doing it themselves. And if you really want to experiment, then what better way to do it than attempting to write a novel in a month?
