So word count-wise, I'm getting there. Plot-wise, I'm making every damn word up. And my initial time line is pretty much screwed. I have no idea where exactly my characters are going--except they've discovered that there's something strange going on at the vacation house. There have been numerous mentions of explosions (my backup plan for making things exciting), but only one actual explosion. A methane-induced one at that. My main character has PTSD and his house guest likes brandishing dangerous ray guns. There's the sudden appearance of Minestrone, the genetically engineered snow leopard--I have no idea how he showed up. And Dalek-like robots in the basement. All this stuff--definitely not in any of my now superfluous pre-planning.
Anyways, now that night has fallen on Triton, I'm going to attempt to make things more scary. Well, I attempt scary things every year. But we'll see how they really come out.
