Well, that was a spectacular meltdown. Something obviously went haywire from some time between 11 PM PST September 30 when I logged off and 5:30 AM PST October 1 when I tried to access the Nanowrimo site. Then again, I'm just not surprised any more. The Nanowrimo website always has a meltdown on October 1.
I'm still working on an outline. I'm not even halfway through it even though it isn't long. I just get sidetracked with other stuff. (Actual science-y stuff to be exact.)
On background: one reason why my mechanical engineer character is jaded is because he lived for a while on a hot prison planet. At first, I just thought that he would have a job there, but today--I wondered if it wouldn't be more interesting if he was actually a prisoner there (doing time because someone framed him?) and did a lot of labor intensive work while wearing an environmental suit that he could never take off. So not only is he jaded, but he's also paranoid and sensory deprived.
As for the flaky computer hacker--she only seems flaky. Before coming to Triton, she had been doing a stint with some Tibetan Buddhist nuns on Mars. Specifically working on their computer databases (hm, must come up with reason why nuns would want a computer database) and learning some martial arts. So maybe I'll throw in some ninja tricks along with the ray guns.
