Yesterday afternoon, I went to another write-in and did almost 2,500 words in 2.5 hours, handwritten. I didn't realize that I wrote that fast. I type faster, obviously, but when I'm writing, I have to think. That slows down my typing to about 1,000 words per hour, max.
To be honest, I've been having problems actually writing the story on my computer. I sit there and before you know it, I have 300 words after one hour. Not a very good show.
I think my hang up is that my story takes place way before computers and that one of the themes is writing. Writing by hand, that is. And my laptop isn't helping. Perhaps my subconscious is not so subtly resisting the idea because how can you write a story about writing when you're typing?
What I'm going to do this week is to handwrite the novel and then type it in after each session. We'll see how it goes.
