Character Equality

Ah, here we go again. Some female writers claim that they can't write female characters--that they can only write male characters because only those characters are interesting. I think they really need to examine their own preconceptions. Female characters are people in their own right, not stereotypical nurturing types or pale imitations of men. And if you can't write a female character that isn't a cliche, stop reading whatever dreck you've been buried in and start looking at the people around you.

"Oh wow, that’s impressive. I think I’ll keel over first from a fried brain before I got to 20k in a day"

Last Nano after I finished I was so fried that my brain wouldn't start comprehending how to write until a full month of nothingness. But I had to set a goal I might not achieve, otherwise it's not a challenge is it?!

And to this post I LOVE writing female characters. My last two nanos were apart of a trilogy and my MC was a female Captain of a pirate ship. She ruled. Really, she did!

Wow... Anyone who says you can't do female characters is either a hack or lazy. My Nanowrimo Novel from last year starred a female. In fact, it wouldn't have been believable at all if it were about a male.

There's nothing particularly difficult about writing female characters over male characters. At least not that I know of.

Amen! I actually prefer to write female characters. Something about giving a unique female character life inspires me. :)

I'm a writer and a NaNoWriMo participant, I found you through clicking your comment at another writing blog!

I enjoy writing in both genders. This will be the first nano where my MC will be male. Certain stories call for a male MC others a female MC. It is fun to write outside of yourself, but it is also fun to write the you that resides deep inside. My Female characters are always a manifestation of some deep dark flaw within myself. I can take it and run with it. It is fun. Maybe people should try to write themselves exagerrated and build from there.
